1. We can name what must still work if a key person, supplier or system changes.

2. At least two people can explain the critical decision path and its exceptions.

3. The evidence behind important decisions can be found without relying on memory.

4. We know where AI or automation consumes, transforms or hides organisational knowledge.

5. Human judgement and escalation points remain explicit after the proposed change.

6. A new competent colleague could understand the process without recreating its history.

7. Ownership for updating knowledge, evidence and operating guidance is clear.

8. Six months after implementation, the result should still be understandable and maintainable.

Choose the flag with the greatest potential consequence. Name what could fail, what evidence exists, who investigates and when to review it. Do not total the answers: one critical unknown can matter more than seven yeses.

The six-month lens

Six months is a practical review horizon, not a shelf-life guarantee. Ask whether a competent successor can reconstruct a decision from the past six months. Also look ahead: after a change, will the reasoning, sources and workflow remain understandable and maintainable? Use a shorter or longer horizon when the risk or pace of change calls for it.
